FAS Latinum Lobe

Malro Nari
- Mondo's grandfather / Nalg's Hupyrian servant (As he appeared for the Tekin-Falleg birthday)
Malro swore an oath to serve Nalg after his son was killed.  He is frequently torn between supporting his employer and disapproving of some of his choices.  Having sworn a vow of silence, he will speak to no one but Nalg, and then only when they are alone.  More often, he simply gives Nalg disapproving looks when the Daimon strays into dark territory.  Whatever disapproval he may feel, however, he remains a faithful servant and valued adviser.

Daimon Nalg
- Malro's Ferengi employer
Daimon Nalg is a good (read: wealthy) Ferengi Daimon who has fallen just short of being truly great (read: filthy rich.)  Nalg is an old-school Ferengi adapting to life in the new world.  He keeps his ship well maintained, and employs the best people he can attract, treating them with a semblance of respect.  While he has a generally good heart, his ambitions have led him to break the rules.  He is seeking business opportunities in the Gamma Quadrant in contravention of Sorq's local monopoly.  This means dealing in the shadows, and trading on the black market.  He tries not to think about who might do what with the articles he traffics here, even though Malro frequently reminds him.  His ultimate ambition is to find a way to unseat Daimon Sorq and claim the monopoly the Nagus has granted over the Trialus sector.

Drika
- FAS Latinum Lobe Flight officer

The Crew of the IKS Nom Pach (reassigned to the IKS LoD Qan)

Captain Noh'ves, Beja's Father

Text color= tomato

Noh'ves is Beja's father.  Although his daughter considers him a staunch traditionalist, he is flexible enough to allow that there is more than one way to accumulate honor and fulfill one's duties as a Klingon.  While he does not fully understand his daughter, he tries to be supportive of her choices.  In fact, his experiences with his daughter are what brought flexibility into his mindset.  Noh'ves is an able commander partly for this reason.  He allows each of his officers to excel in their own way, without expecting conformity to traditional methods.

First Officer K'mpoc

Text color=salmon

K'mpoc and Noh'ves are lifelong friends, having met as fresh graduates of the Imperial Academy at the onset of the Dominion War.  They advanced though the ranks together, always serving side by side.  K'mpoc is an able leader, but he does not have the ambition to command his own ship.  He prefers to stay at the side of his good friend and Captain, supporting him in all things.  Sometimes, this support comes in the form of telling his old friend when he is making an error.  Their friendship is strong enough to survive such conversations.  K'mpoc valued Noh'ves friendship a great deal partly because the man was kind to him even though K'mpoc is part Bajoran.  His mother was a Bajoran slave who escaped into Imperial space and married his father.  He wears a Bajoran earring to honor his mother's heritage.

Flight Officer H'rel

Text color=beige
H'rel has been piloting Birds of Prey since the first days of the Empire's alliance with the United Federation of Planets.  Back then, he was a brash youth.  Now he is a seasoned veteran.  But one thing hasn't changed: H'rel loves flying more than anything in the wide world.  For this reason, he prefers to avoid any promotion that would pull him away from Flight Control.

Science Officer Tolec

Text color=azure

Tolec always had an interest in science, but only entered the field when an injury to his knee left him a less capable warrior.  He has thrown himself into the sciences to preserve his usefulness to the Empire.  As a result, he is a fairly skilled officer.

Chief Engineer Grom

Text color=silver

Chief Engineer Grom lives with the shame of being a cyborg.  When the Nom Pach was crippled in combat with pirates, the ship was found by a Bynar vessel.  The Bynars found Grom near death, and repaired him to the best of their ability.  They did not realize he would have preferred to die than to become a heavily cyborged individual.  Grom nearly invoked ritual suicide rather than live this way, but he was convinced that he could still live a life of honor.  He is an accomplished engineer.

Security Chief M'kai (daughter of M'ord)

Text color=plum

A no-nonsense security officer, M'kai is known to be an expert duellist who attained her current position when she challenged and defeated a superior she accused of incompetence.  She lost an eye to that duel, but it does not seem to have diminished her effectiveness.

Tactical Officer Vilka

Text color=hotpink

Young and brash, Vilka achieved senior status in her department at a young age due to her efficiency.  But she may have been promoted too soon, and remains foolishly headstrong at times.

THE NUMATI

The Numati are a peaceful race of touch-telepaths who were once attacked by a hostile species of slavers that deceived them by claiming to have good intentions.  As a consequence, they have protocols for First Contact that involve holistically evaluating a civilization before revealing the location of their homeworld.  Their typical method of greeting, which involves touching a person and opening their mind to them, proved disastrous during First Contact with the Federation.  Due to differences in the way that their minds process thoughts, and the way Alpha and Beta quadrant species process thoughts, they accidentally transformed whimsical thoughts into serious delusions in Katra Station personnel.  Exceedingly embarrassed by this incident, they have vowed to use more care in the future.

Update: On the Season 1 Katra Mission 'The Binds that Tie' the Numati conducted an espionage operation against the USS Discovery, stealing the plans for the Prometheus Class vessel.  This operation was conducted from the diplomatic vessel NDCSS Understanding.  The ship was impounded and the entire crew arrested, along with their Captain Orleanne.  Unfortunately, there was no easy way to put the stolen plans back into Starfleet control, and this remains a concern.

As a condition of returning the Numati spies of the Diplomatic Corps back to the Numati, official diplomatic channels were opened and a small Numati embassy was placed on Katra.

SS Yadyam - Pakled Freighter and Crew
Ship was Destroyed in Action against New Dominion Attack Craft

Asile, Captain Odelot, Engineer, Cook Aldo, Security, Cargo Specialist

The Yadyam is a Pakled freighter which frequents a route between Katra Station, New Bajor, and Deep Space Nine.  Odelot, the ship's chief Engineer and Cook, was once an enlisted officer in Starfleet, but retired from his position to help his sister run the ship when his parents became seriously injured in a Romulan attack.  Now, Asile and her husband Aldo operate the vessel, while Odelot makes it go.

Brief History of the Yadyam

In 2275, the Burro Class freighter was unveiled by Torro Space Industries.  It had been their entry into the mid-bulk long-distance freighter market, in direct competition with the Monarch class freighter produced by Eradict Warp Solutions.  Torro was well known for building sturdy warp-capable shuttles, and their entry into the freighter market showed the hallmark of their design philosophy.

'Built to Last' was the Torro company slogan.

Eradict Warp Solutions had their own motto, 'Better.  Faster.  Cheaper.'

As it turned out, the Eradict slogan drew more customers.  Their Monarch was not actually better.  Nor was it faster.  But it was cheaper, and so it sold like hotcakes, leaving the Burro Class freighter as a footnote in the history of the civilian starship industry.   Only 5,260 Burros had been constructed before the line was suspended and Torro Space Industries returned to the business of making shuttlecraft.

The 4,926th Burro, once named 'Valiant Wanderer,' had the misfortune of running afoul of a gravitic mine near Sheliak space.   Most of the crew were killed instantly.  One member of the crew managed to put out a distress call before succumbing.  The vessel, 'Built to Last' as it was, drifted along for many years as a floating tomb.  Only a weak, malfunctioning 'Mayday' message announced the fate of its long-dead crew.

That was when a small family of Pakled came across it.  The Valiant Wanderer was a much better ship than their old J Class, which they'd purchased from a Yridian salvage yard.   Quickly transferring their things aboard, they cleaned out the dead bodies and claimed the Valiant Wanderer as their own.  It was a fixer-upper, for sure.  But in surprisingly good shape, considering all it had been through.

And so, the Valiant Wanderer became the SS Yadyam, and served the family well for two decades.  Over time, they made countless repairs and improvements, to the point where the technology within the vessel only vaguely resembled the systems that had come out of the factory.  Pakleds, after all, were an enterprising people.  They were always finding new things to make their ship go.

The Yadyam continued operation with a modest profit margin until the elder Pakleds who operated the ship were injured in a Romulan raid.  Their children took up the operation of the family business, and continue to run freight to this day.

THE WANDERERS

The Wanderers are a group of apparent pirates that the USS Kir'Shara encountered after receiving a distress call from a Karemma ship.  In reality, their story is more complex than the term 'pirate' would suggest.   A debris recovery team which scoured the remains of Wanderer vessels has retrieved some useful details from a recovered computer core:

They were once Kalodians, from the planet Kalodi in the Straya System.  For many decades, their people were at war with a species known as the Husnock.  The Husnock were a very aggressive alien species, and the Kalodians adopted a militaristic culture to deal with them.  Then, one day, all of the Husnock vanished.  For several years, the Kalodians maintained their military, but funding was gradually cut more and more as the peace continued.   After a full decade of peace, the Kalodians began to decommission their military forces wholesale.

That is when the Gregari appeared, and wiped out the Kalod system.  A small portion of the Kalodian population escaped on a Supercarrier that was in disrepair and slated to be scrapped.  The Kalodians have survived on this supercarrier ever since.  They have renamed themselves 'The Wanderers' and they maintain their supercarrier- the home of all that remains of their civilization- by conducting pirate raids.  However, they maintain a strong military tradition including strategy and tactics that surpasses most pirate groups.  Their supercarrier is constantly on the verge of breakdown, and they can only manage to repair a few of the carrier's attack ships at one time.  When they do manage to get things working, the Kalodian tech of the Wanderers is actually fairly sophisticated, and they pack quite a punch.

These figures from Wanderer society were featured in Season 1, Mission 2:

The 'General', not otherwise named.  Was severely damaged during an emergency transporter evacuation of his ship.  He survived, but his condition and current state are unknown.

'Colonel Favala' is apparently the second in command.  She has a chem addiction to unnamed stimulants, and wears a camouflage field generator on her belt that allows her to blend with shadows and bulkheads.  She is noted as being an able strategist who thinks quickly on her feet and makes no-nonsense decisions.
