CHARACTER HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY:
Davin was born in 2367 aboard Deep Space 5 to two young lieutenants who were assigned there. His began as one would expect: both parents working but find ways to be good parents to Davin. They never married, as the relationship hadn't really lasted that long, so it was a co-parenting situation at best, but they made it work. His parents loved him very much and did their best to provide him with every opportunity. Naturally, his parents being in Starfleet, Davin spent a lot of time around Starfleet personnel and picked up a few things. Davin did well in school as well, but he certainly had to put his time in studying. He liked it though, the pursuit of knowledge. His father was a Science officer, so he'd instilled that concept into Davin at an early age.

Davin spent twelve years on Deep Space 5, but as was eventually separated from the station when his mother was transferred to medical vessel, where Davin spent the next five years. As a Starfleet "baby," it was almost expected that Davin enlist in Starfleet. He could have gone another way, but he had no interest in pursuing another way. Starfleet was really all he knew. He had the marks in school and the backing of a Command Grade officer, so he went after the entrance exams. Of those accepted, he scored in the top twenty percent of the group. It had been a good day for testing. He went in as an Operations Cadet, which meant he had a lot of multi-discipline work to do to earn a spot on a Starship.

Davin was not one to find himself on the disciplinary radar, so at least from that sense, his years at the academy were uneventful. Academically, however, he found himself in the middle of many positive experiences. Not only did get to expand his knowledge of general Starship design (and repair), he learned much about many engineering concepts. A good ops officer needed a solid base in engineering, but he also needed at least a working knowledge of the general sciences as well. He never knew what tasks he would need to complete as an ops officer. His mother had always said it depended on the assignment. Davin took that to heart and did his best. As was with all cadets, Davin also did his time in the helmsman's chair. Every officer needed to be at least a basic level pilot, but Davin, as with everything else, spent a little extra time on the log. He'd be lying if the thrill of piloting a starship didn't have at least some appeal. As his academy days drew to a close, though, he was intently focused on his ops training. He wasn't about to let any opportunities slip out the door.

After his graduation in 2388, Davin earned his commission as an Ensign and was assigned to the USS Avalon. He spent the next six years aboard the Avalon, usually as part of whatever repair crew was needed, but he did get some experience as a bridge relief officer at ops. As the Avalon was a large ship, the competition for position was always prime, but he made many friends during that time. In 2394, he crossed paths with his father while serving on the USS Madrid, the ship of which his father was the executive officer. They'd of course kept in reasonably regular contact, so this felt a little as a homecoming. The Madrid was a science vessel, so he got to spend some quality time with his "general science" knowledge as he'd refer to it. In the latter parts of his time, he was up for the Assistant Ops Chief position
, but he never got the chance to truly compete. The Madrid, while on a routine survey mission, was attacked by a small pirate armada. The Madrid, while she fought valiantly was disabled and boarded. When help finally arrived, the pirates sabotaged the warp core. Davin's father and the Chief Engineer tried to stop the core from going critical and blowing, but were unsuccessful. The Madrid's core exploded and she was lost. Only thirty-seven of the seventy-eight crewmembers survived. Among the lost, Davin's father. Davin was quickly reassigned to Starbase 416, which was fortunate because it was the base in which his mother's ship was based out of. Davin wouldn't have been able to get over the loss of his father without his mother's comfort and sometimes hard pep talks. He stayed aboard 416 as an ops officer, getting many project commands and serving as Assistant Chief of Ops from 2397-2399.

SAMPLE POST:

"No, no, no, no.." Davin yelled as he rushed into the rear compartment of the runabout. This was not the best time for the ensign to be mistaking tools and parts. They were under attack! Panic always set in for the younger officers. They were fresh out of the academy. Of course it wasn't their fault, but they trained for this. Time to step up. He picked up the required part and said, "This one goes here, and that one," he pointed at the part currently in the young ensign's hands, "goes there. Right?"

"Aye sir. I'm sorry, sir," the ensigned mumbled out, pushing back the tears.

"No. I said no apologies. You've got this. You know how to fix this. Just do it," Davin encouraged. "Don't worry about anything else. You've got this."

Davin moved back to the main cabin, where his XO was moving the seemingly lifeless body of their pilot from the helm station.

"Mr. Lang, if you please," the XO said, motioning towards helm.

Davin nodded, "Aye," as he took the helm and initiated an evasive manuever. He'd just identified the aggressors moments before he'd run to the back. "Pirates, Commander. Three vessels." The scans he'd started before rushing to the back came through. "They're raider type ships sir."

The Commander made a confused face. "I thought those were decommissioned or destory in the 70s."

The ship shook violently as it was hit by another phaser blast. "Well, that's why we don't pay you to think, sir." A grin formed on Davin's face. That last blast sent alarms through the ship.

"Warp drive is out. Looks like we're not running today," the Commander retorted.

Davin his the comm link. "Reynolds, get up here." The young ensign had quickly responded and appeared, shaken and ashamed. "Take my station and give me everything we have to weapons, engines, and thrusters." Davin looked at the side of the helm console. He's scanned for any type of planetary object in the immediate area. All there was around was a reasonable dense nebula, a million and a half kilometers off the port side. "Commander, I have an idea," he said. "There's a nebula nearby. If we can get these guys off of us for a few minutes, we could make it."

"Ok," the Commander said. "How do we get there then?"

"Well, I have an idea on the point," Davin replied. "Do you remember that move Captain Jessup used on that rogue Breen ship?"

The XO smiled. "I'm right with you. Preparing to release four photon torpedoes as mines. On your mark."

Davin slowed slightly an straighted the the shuttle and held its course. The pirates tightened their formation and continued firing. Davin slowed again, feigning engine failure. The pirates closed in on the ship until they were just in range. "Now!"

The Commander released the torpedoes. The mines flew backward behind the shuttle. As the pirates came in range, one appeared to veer off, but it was too late. The Commander fired on the mines, destroying one ship and damaging the other two. Davin punched it and they made it to the nebula. As expected, their sensors were down, but that meant the same for the pirates. Now they had time!
